MIN JI CHOI
My name is Min Ji Choi, and I am a South Korean girl born in Guatemala. I lived my early childhood in the United States, Illinois, Chicago, and Guatemala. I attended Christian Academy of Guatemala (CAG) for thirteen years, and it has strongly impacted my life academically and spiritually molding me into who I am today.

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans."
Proverbs 16:3
MISSION STATEMENT:
To live a life that is both meaningful and good that helps me understand God, others, and myself

Living a meaningful and good life is a hard journey that takes time, effort, and dedication. It starts with understanding oneself and others, which can be achieved through empathy, self-reflection, and open-mindedness. Mainly through service projects, I truly believe that “understanding” is crucial. One can have everything in the world, but feeling alone and thinking nobody understands you is a different feeling and topic. Consequently, I wish that through my passion and ability, I can become someone that people can trust and know can understand in them.
VISION STATEMENT:
Become a better version, and be a good model to others

As a person who has experienced multiculturalism, I want to continue to expand my knowledge and be someone who can understand the many perspectives that exist today, writing and voicing opinions about the world and the people that live in it. In the near future, after graduating from high school, I wish to major in media and communication, where I can learn to be more ethical, committed to diversity and inclusivity, embrace technology for the public good, and encourage critical thinking about media from all backgrounds. It has been my dream since childhood to be the one on TV reporting current events and writing riveting stories behind the scenes that can impact the way people think and tell, so I hope to one day be one of the communicators and thus become one of the people that can change the world for the better.

1) SPIRITUAL GROWTH
Growing spiritually has become the most important aspect of my life since coming to CAG. When I first came to CAG, my faith was based more on knowledge than on my relationship with God. Through Bible classes, discipleship, and service projects, I got to change my mentality about being a good Christian. I realized I was a lukewarm Christian, and through my dedication to understanding Him, I unknowingly changed my behaviors and words toward other people. Now that I am planning to study in South Korea, I wish I could continue to develop spiritually so people could see God working in my life. CAG has taught such a life-changing lesson that I want to go and teach others the importance of living your life for Christ.

2) INTELLECTUAL GROWTH
Since I was in elementary school, I chased perfection, believing it was the only way to succeed. However, in my pursuit of perfection and neglect of my intellectual growth, I learned I was not learning and applying lessons to my life. Through the teachers I have learned from, CAG has shown me the value of striving for excellence and dedication, not perfection. Through my amazing and wise teacher and missionaries, I have learned the value of identifying my strengths and weaknesses and how to focus on improving them and turning my weaknesses into strengths rather than trying to be flawless in every aspect. In the long run, I learned that academic self-development is a long process that requires time and effort, and I wish to apply that when I go to college and in my work field.

3) PERSONAL GROWTH
The CAG community has provided me with a safe home where I can find loving and trusting people. Compared to other schools and areas I have been to, CAG has been like family to me, but even if you're very close, I learned that there are always going to be some people that you don't work well with and some who are not on the same page as you. Despite that, I learned how to continue to try to understand them, be patient, be loving, and pray for them because one does not know what others are going through. Through the love of Jesus, I have learned how to also be loving to other people and how that love is not just an emotion one feels for another but has many characteristics, such as being patient, kind, not envious, and not keeping a record of wrongs (1 Corinthians 13:4–8). Through the love of God and the relationship I have with my school community, I wish to continue to love others despite their religion, background, education, or views in the far future.

4) PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Compared to academic development, physical development has been a much harder challenge for me since it has never been quite a priority in my life. Through physical education and health classes, I have learned how to care for my body in every manner, such as eating choices, mental health, medication, and working out daily. Although I have never really enjoyed any kind of exercise, I've learned how to push myself and work better in teams. Not only through PE but also through the scripture, I have learned how to value myself more, not only because I am important but also because my body does not belong to me alone but to God, for it is a temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19–20).
